What?

What is the GMTBA?

Collectively, the GMTBA is you, the bowler. Our member bowlers are what make up the Greater Montreal Tenpin Bowling Association, and it is because of you, that there is sanctioned bowling in Montreal. As CTF sanctioned bowlers, we enjoy many benefits and priveleges that come with sanctioned bowling, as adminstered by the GMTBA Board of Directors.

What is the GMTBA Board of Directors?

We are a group of volunteers working for bowlers in the Greater Montreal Area. The GMTBA is the local Association representing the Canadian Tenpin Federation, the sport’s sanctioning body in Canada. Through us, our members have all the benefits and privileges that go along with sanctioned bowling.

The GMTBA has a history that starts well before our latest incarnation that formed in August 2004. With the creation of the CTF as its own national entity without ties to the American Bowling Congress, the GMTBA merged the local men’s and women’s boards to serve all the bowlers in the Greater Montreal Area. With members having experience on the board and in the bowling community for over 25 years, we are here, in the background, to serve you.

What do we do?

Quite simply, we enforce the rules and regulations set down by the Canadian Tenpin Federation and World Tenpin Bowling Association. We are the local link to our national federation, and we perform all of the local responsibilities associated with sanctioned bowling:

Sanctioning: Lanes must conform to international standards, and we inspect them annually at our member centers to ensure that our bowlers get lanes that follow these rules. Sanctioned leagues are organized at these centers, and we ensure that they conform to the rules and regulations laid down by the CTF.

Awards: From youth crests, to watches, to honour score rings and plaques, we hand out thousands of awards every year to our deserving members. We even created an award unique to GMTBA bowlers to better serve and honour our bowlers.

Tournaments: We organize several tournaments a year including mixed events and our annual City Championships tournaments. It is an opportunity for our bowlers to compete in handicap and scratch divisions. For more information on these events please see our calendar.

Local Issues: As the local representation of our national federation, we enforce the rules and help to settle any disputes that may arise regarding regulations, dues, etc. We are also the local resource for interpretation of rules and guidance in their proper use. Our local Association Manager carries stocks of printed materials for leagues, and is ready and willing to help them in their proper use.

And much more!
